Harrogate, Tennessee, April 23, 2018—The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band, both directed by Assistant Professor of Music Dr. James McAllister, will present a concert Sunday, April 29, at 3 p.m. at the Springhouse and Amphitheatre on the LMU main campus.
The final performance of the year for both ensembles, the pops concert will be in the style of a quintessential American band concert in the park. Concert attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to enjoy the performance on the lawn.
“The pops concert will feature a variety of popular selections, show tunes, music from the movies, and a few surprises,” said McAllister. “We’re really trying to re-create the experience of a summer band concert, one that you might have found in the early 20th century with a local town band or one of the professional touring bands led by Sousa or Gilmore.”
The concert is free and open to the public. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to the Sam and Sue Mars Performing Arts Center in Duke Hall of Citizenship. For more information about the concert or the music program at LMU, contact McAllister at james.mcallister@LMUnet.edu.
